The book Simply Christian by N. T. Wright is a bit reminiscent of Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. It is more theological and of course much more current. The book is divided into 3 parts. The first part which we will cover in the first week (Oct. 14) explores “echoes of a voice” and deals with universal feelings that point to something greater than us. Part 2 (weeks 2-4) lays out the central Christian belief about God. While this may seem elementary, I believe you will be challenged by Wright’s insights to rethink your beliefs. Part 3 (weeks 5-7) deals with what it looks like in practice to follow Jesus, energized by the Spirit, and to advance the plan of the creator God.
While it is not necessary, your experience in the class will be enhanced if you read the book before the class. Each class will cover about 30 pages of the book, 1-2 hours of reading. You will find the book easy to read and thought provoking. I will also post notes and other information, as well as provide a forum for discussion, at SimplyChristian.eklund.io.
I’m looking forward to a stimulating 7 weeks.
